Inspite of late night matches, playing up in some instances by as much as three years and being asked to play against national team development squads, everyone who participated in the basketball tournament in Lloret de Mar, Spain over the Easter weekend were united in expressing how enjoyable the whole week was. The event saw four Cheshire Wire teams (2 at under 14 and 2 at under 15) take part in some very challenging matches against much older opponents from Spain, Italy and Japan. However, this didn’t prevent our teams from competing. Many of the matches were closely fought encounters but in many instances the experience of our opponents and the punishing schedule that was presented to our teams conspired against us, and all of the teams were unable to repeat the successes of last years tournament.

Highlights of the week were the performances of Tom Mottram and Kaan Uzunali who were dominant in which ever team they were asked to play for. A mention must also go to number 23 Nathan Dobbins who in his brief appearances was able to sink a free throw, a field goal and even a 3-pointer. Better watch out guys!

Lets hope that next year is a more favourable affair.
