As from next season, Cheshire Wire Basketball Club are pleased to announce that they will have a venue that they will be able to call home.

After several meetings during the last 6 months, Wire-logo-positive Cheshire Wire Basketball Club and the sports halls owners Birchwood CHS Birchwood Community High School have reached an agreement that will allow the Club to use the facility, based at Birchwood Leisure and Tennis Complex, Birchwood, Warrington for most of its home fixtures starting in September 2016 and beyond. This is a major breakthrough for the Club as up until now, it has relied upon using several other excellent facilities within the Warrington area but due to availability and the complexity of arranging matches for many different club teams this, at times, has made the club feel a little nomadic.

As a result of this move, the Club has been given permission to re-mark the main basketball court (already completed) in order to comply with current Basketball England regulations regarding National Basketball League teams. The owners, Birchwood Community High School have also given the Club permission to hang club banners, provided storage space for our equipment and offered the Club the use of the school mini-buses for away matches, if required. The venue also has seating capacity for upto 500 spectators, some of which will be pulled out and used on match days, sufficient run offs around the court for improved player safety, additional space for players to warm up before games and will be dedicated to National League games on match days.

This is a major opportunity for the Club to develop, grow and expand the sport of basketball within the Warrington area and its surrounds but there is still much work to be done over the coming weeks before the court is ready for the new season. It is expected that once the upgrades are all complete, it will provide an excellent match day experience for both players and spectators alike.

Cheshire Wire Basketball Club would like to express its gratitude to Birchwood Community High School for their cooperation in enabling the Club to deliver this project and looks forward to working in partnership with the school on this exciting new venture.
